FRANCESCO & DIOGO

Two people, one project — and the life behind it.

Sobre nosotros

Maré was not built by a company. It was built by two people who decided to bring together what they know best — photography and food — and share it with a small group willing to slow down.

Francesco
Photographer · Participatory photography facilitator

Italian photographer based in Barcelona, with 30 years of photography behind him. He studied at City & Islington College London and specialised in therapeutic and participatory photography at Instituto 8 Barcelona.

He has led participatory photography projects commissioned by the Government of Catalonia (DGAIA) and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, taught participatory photography in schools in Barcelona and Madrid, and collaborated with the University of Lleida. He has also worked with various NGOs in Africa, South America and Central America. His work has been exhibited in the UK, Spain and Italy.

Outside photography, Francesco is also an Airbnb Superhost of 13 years, with 639 reviews and a 4.64 average rating — the same attention to people and detail he now brings to Maré.

Brazil entered his life more than 20 years ago, and he has kept returning ever since. At Maré, Francesco facilitates the daily story circles and makes a professional portrait of each participant in Moreré.

Diogo
Chef

Portuguese chef with a background in 5-star hotels in the Algarve, Portugal, where he developed a rigorous approach to technique and hospitality. His true passion came after: the intersection between the Mediterranean cuisine he carries within him and the Bahian flavours he discovered in Brazil.

At Maré, Diogo assists the cooking workshops alongside a local cook, and builds each evening's menu — a cuisine that follows no fixed recipe, only what the sea and the land offer that day. His philosophy is simple: cook what there is, with whoever is there.

Francesco and Diogo live this project together — and the life behind it.
